TK-1: Oops- Dinosaurs

Sorry families- I've been a little overwhelmed getting this year going.
Last week we worked on water. We focused on the water cycle, remembering all of that hard vocab with fun songs, and also how energy moved the cycle along. Our experiment was a focus on the affect water had when traveling through color pen marks. I am so very excited to be working with these students- they constantly surprise me with their interest and willingness to try their best!

This week we will be working on dinosaurs. I want to focus on the different types of dinos, the many periods when dinos lived, and especially fossils. Hopefully our experiment will be on fossils, making some of our own and even excavating (if all goes well :)

Be safe this Halloween!

2-5: Oops- Dinosaurs

Sorry families- I've been a little overwhelmed getting this year going.
Last week we worked on sound- with a major focus on the smallest particles that make us up and how sound is transmitted. Students were able to make their own phones and discuss how sound moved across tight wires. I was very excited to see some students break off from the initial example experiment and try to connect multiple phones, cross wires, and even try to make longer phones. It was a fun week, hopefully you at home have enjoyed playing with our experiments.

TK-1: Body Senses

This week is all about our bodies and the senses we use to interact with the world around us. What would life be like if we couldn't see? How do we know what is cooking the kitchen with just your nose? Can you tell if that dog is happy or sad by the noise he's making? Sight, taste, smell, touch and hearing are the five basic senses- we will focus a great deal on sight and taste this week.
Looking forward to seeing everyone!

2-5: Rocks and Minerals

We will be talking about the Rock Cycle this week and explore what makes a rock a rock. What sort of things can you use to identify one rock from another? Where do rocks come from? If your child starts picking up rocks and exploring their luster, color, streak, hardness, taste or smell please explore with them (caution with taste that it is safe first please).
On a side note- I am so very impressed with the reading ability of the students. We talked about igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks- all big concepts to take in and hard words to pronounce. Keep up the reading and the hard work :D
